Cobalt Flameby *styx-leagon

Masked royal blue veiltail male betta.

This is the same lineart as Lithium Flower, but the original version. Lithium Flower was a commission and the client didn’t like all the plants, so I removed them in that version. I decided I liked it with all the plants, so I finished it up with a different color scheme. I don’t use orange too much so I thought I’d make the plants orange, and because I loved blue masked bettas, that’s what the fish turned out as.

I love your hi-contrast color works. for this piece is it painted onto a black colored paper/canvas?

Yes, it's on black card stock, which can be a little frustrating. It seems the black colored card stocks vary a lot in their tooth, and it greatly affects how a piece looks. When I find a piece of black paper that has a really great tooth, I tend to get really excited about it haha.

have you used Arches Cover paper, it's a print-maker's paper that is available in black,i loved it when I did this project with oil bars on it. I think it's Canson that produces black illustration board, which is great for painting on, it's just very difficult stuff to try to cut.
